"Spirit of Saint Francis Award” given to the Congregation of St. Joseph

Charleston, WV—Saint Francis Hospital presented its annual “Spirit of Saint Francis Award” to the Congregation of St. Joseph-Wheeling. The presentation ceremony took place alongside the statue of Saint Francis of Assisi at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 4th in the hospital’s courtyard.

“Our Spirit of Saint Francis Award is bestowed annually to the person or organization that best follows the example of Saint Francis of Assisi by reaching out to the voiceless, the rejected and the needy through unselfish acts of love,” said CEO Dan Lauffer.

“The Congregation of St. Joseph-Wheeling was chosen because the extensive ministries of the Sisters reflects the example set by Saint Francis during his life,” Lauffer added. “Through their various ministries, they address issues of spiritual development, justice, non-violence, health and wellness, homelessness, education, and ecology.”

“The Congregation of St. Joseph—Wheeling is an important part of the history of Saint Francis Hospital where many of them have served our community over the last 90 years. Through this award we are able to recognize their contributions to Saint Francis Hospital and to the state of West Virginia,” said Lauffer.

The public was invited and a reception immediately followed the presentation.

The Spirit of Saint Francis Award is presented annually on October 4th which is the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi.
